The Great Bible of 1539 | 1539年《大聖經》
England's First Authorized Bible
The first English Bible authorized by the Church of England was the Great Bible of 1539 , which was produced under the supervision of Thomas Cromwell, the chief minister to Henry VIII. Printed in folio format, it was secured with chains in designated locations within 、churches , in accordance with the 1538 Royal Injunctions mandating that every church in England possess a copy of the English Bible for public access. In 1560, however, the Geneva Bible 3 was published, offering a portable edition that included annotations, allowing individuals to read it in various settings, unlike the strictly church-bound Great Bible.
